The Scene
With stained-glass backsplashes, brass fixtures, and low lighting, this old-school jazz club really hits the mark. There are plenty of viewpoints for checking out big-screen TVs or anyone lounging at the long bar. And there's plenty to look at during the thriving happy hour. Get comfortable in one of the roomy booths and order one of the delicious appetizers or a full meal. Then relax and enjoy top local jazz ensembles, accentuated by the always-entertaining house trumpeter Jack Sheldon. (You might remember him from “The Merv Griffin Show” or as the voice behind “Schoolhouse Rocks.”) No matter when you go, there's always a good crowd, engaging bartenders and music that's low enough to hear your conversation.
The Draw
After work, the crowd consists of mostly local professionals. The dinner hour fills with movie- or theatergoers. Late nights are devoted to jazz fiends.
