Larry Appelbaum is a recording engineer, radio host, film curator, concert producer and jazz journalist in Washington DC.

My day gig is Senior Studio Engineer and jazz specialist at the Library of Congress, where I work on preservation of the Library's audio and video collections. That's where I discovered the Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane Carnegie Hall tapes and the Lester Young 1940 jam session discs, among other historic recordings. My scribbling has appeared in JazzTimes, Swing Journal, Jazznin and Jazzeit magazines, as well as the book Jazz: The First Century (William Morrow, 2000). I curate a jazz film series, produce concerts of creative improvised music and host a radio program on WPFW-FM in Washington DC. I'm a former record collector, now in recovery.
