Michael is AAJ's Technology Director.
As AAJ's Technology Director, I wear many hats, which seems appropriate given my eclectic education. I remember studying for a midterm in nuclear physics during the same week I had to write a lengthy movie review / interview for my college newspaper, and finish a piano composition I had promised to the head of the music department. (The movie? My Dinner With Andre. My mid-term grade? 91. The composition? Well, I forget the details, but after the dean heard it, he had to excuse himself. I think he threw up.)
At AAJ I do database design and write Perl and PHP scripts. But I've also been called upon to edit articles, change light bulbs, fix transmissions, clean the gutters (no wait, my wife made me do that one!), and do the occasional celebrity impersonation at parties.
My mission is to transform AAJ from a web site based on HTML pages to one that's data-driven. My business partner (and publisher) Mike Ricci and I have a long-range plan to make AAJ a critical part of every Jazz fan's (and musician's) life. We have weekly planning meetings where we toss around lots of ideas, and it's up to me to come up with the technical implementation of those ideas. The next few years should prove to be very interesting!
