I would hope that one looking to be introduced to Phineas Newborn Jr NOT start with 'Solo Piano'. PN was a brilliant creative virtuoso in his prime. To me, 'Solo Piano', an ill-chosen collection of tunes, recorded (poorly) in the 1970s on an out of tune piano, featuring fast but somewhat harsh playing, I know that some PN afficionados love this album. to me, it does a disservice to this wonderful artist.
