    Thanks for the thoughts on Gioia's valuable updated jazz history....agree that he handles the jazz "turning points" deftly and in a very readable style. Sometimes though, I wish he expanded on a few more of the cats instead of simply naming names...Look forward to checking it out.

    I believe that Ted's book provides a really fine, single starting place to begin studying jazz. Such study so deepens ones understanding and experience with the music...not unlike listening to "West End Blues" on a Victrola...
