    Greetings. From what I recall, Ellington himself also referenced Chopin's "Funeral March" in the original recording of "Black and Tan Fantasy" from 1926(?). So perhaps Iyer consciously chose to retain this Chopin motif in deference to the original. I haven't heard the album, but looking forward to it. Cheers.

    Thanks for that. I wasn't aware of Ellington's reference but I'll certainly check it out - and it does put Iyer's own reference in perspective.
