There's a mistake in this review - the track Birdland is not on my copy of the album.
Chris May is right - it's a fine piece of music. But musicians who were trained in a classical tradition who then do other things are"rebels"???
And Joe "passed in 2006" - well he forgot the preposition "away" - but is he so afraid of death he can't write 'Joe died in 2006'?????

Thanks for writing. I just checked Chris' article, and what he says is this:

"The quartet, augmented by accordionist Klaus Paier, offer striking interpretations of three of Zawinul's compositionsthe iconic "In A Silent Way," from Zawinul's years with trumpeter Miles Davis, "Cannonball," Zawinul's own homage to alto saxophonist and sometime bandmate Cannonball Adderley, and "A Remark You Made," along with the ubiquitous "Birdland" the most enduring track on Weather Report's Heavy Weather (Columbia, 1977)."

Which does not suggest Birdland is on the Radiotree disc, only that Birdland, along with A Remark You Made (which IS on radiotree) were the two most enduring tracks on Heavy Weather. I can see how you might misconstrue, so I will make a small edit to read as follows:

"The quartet, augmented by accordionist Klaus Paier, offer striking interpretations of three of Zawinul's compositionsthe iconic "In A Silent Way," from Zawinul's years with trumpeter Miles Davis, "Cannonball," Zawinul's own homage to alto saxophonist and sometime bandmate Cannonball Adderley, and "A Remark You Made" which, along with the ubiquitous "Birdland," was one of the most enduring tracks on Weather Report's Heavy Weather (Columbia, 1977)."

Thanks for bringing it up - better safe than sorry, that's for sure!

As for the term "passed," Chris is British, and that's a perfectly acceptable term for dying...as it is, here in Canada too!

    Best!
