I grew up with Steve in Bethpage, Long Island, NY. He lived 3 doors down. I was friends with his older brother Harold, trumpet, who went on to teach at the Berkley School in Boston.

His father worked for RCA(they had the first color TV in the neighborhood) and Steve practiced with the very new "Music Minus One" play along records when he was very young, 10 or 11 years old. He was good even then. His specialty was "Zing went the strings of my heart", up tempo, at 10 years old.

The last time I saw him was at "Sonny's Place", a jazz club in Seaford, NY., in the 80's. He didn't look too good.

    Dave
