Beautifully executed literary conceit (I can see the man with the pork-pie hat joining Mingus, Pullen, Richmond and company in playing his eponymous tune). You've inspired me to get more deeply into Pullen. He seems to have become more reactionary (but more saintly) as he got older, insisting the music had to get down, get dirty, and above all swing. As the video discloses, he could make more music with the side and back of his hand than most pianists can with ten fingers. I'm going to look for New Beginnings and Sacred Common Ground for starters.
