I greatly enjoyed a lot of the performances at the fest myself. It should be noted that Matana Roberts's COIN COIN is the overall name of her entire project, named after a the nickname of a very well known folkloric family member, all the segments or chapters as she calls it of her piece are based on oral history stroies from her family history. I believe the one she showed at winterfest was named after her mississippi family roots. Anyway there is a pretty indepth info on the setup on her website and she did explain some of this during the introduction, but you probably missed that with everything going on that night. I have seen her perform these pieces avery chance i get and must say its always quite impressive.

My other favorite set was David Murrays.
