Steve Coleman's solo disc is beautiful for any number of reasons, but especially for its quiet, understated soulfulness.

I make it a point to always listen to what Coleman does and, like it alot or a little, I always find his work important in some way.

This elegant little recording will win over a lot of listeners, if they seek it out.

btw- the duo with Dave Holland (PHASE SPACE) is worth hunting down, both for Coleman's incisive "bebop/calculus" playing and for Holland's serious "bass/trigonometry". This is one of my "desert island" recordings.

Players- do yourself a favor and transcribe both parts on a few of the pieces on PHASE SPACE.
