Mr. May’s obvious ill will toward Buddy Rich’s genius is self evident and therefore his comments about Rich’s contributions on Bird and Diz can be summarily dismissed as pathetic. While he is busy tuning Rich out, others more in-the-know will be busy marveling at Rich’s incomparable contributions of dynamic rhythmic nuances, which underpin the album throughout in a way no other drummer could possibly achieve. Bop drummers, as well as drummers overall, the world over only wish they understood how he did it. Mr. May needs to get a serious clue.
