Great review. I agree completely (and not merely because Mike was my trombone teacher in Southern Rhodesia when I was a kid in the early 1960s). Wonderful textures and feelings — and try bouncing next to Big Music or Nonsequence or go back to Michael Gibbs (recorded in 1969) and check out Mike's version of "Sweet Rain" (a delight written for Stan Getz) and his "Some Echoes, Some Shadows" (with Jack Bruce on bass and at one point it even recalls Cream). All wonderful, inspired material, whether you concentrate on composition, arrangement, or performance!
