Patricia Myers: Thanks for your pithy reviews of jazz in Paris and France. Regarding your research on the derivation of "le boeuf" = "jam", I wonder about a connection with the famous Parisian jazz spot (and apparently still-extant restaurant) Le Boeuf sur le Toit... ?

    Hi

You're right Virginia. In French, "faire le boeuf" is due to the fact that during the 30s French and foreign musicians met on the roof of the restaurant Le Boeuf to jam!
