I also taped the "Terrible Trio" concert broacast on NPR's Jazz Alive back in 1983, but just discovered the availability of the "Classic Concert" CD when I was searching on the web for additional information about the concert-- so I ordered one from Amazon. I recently have transcribed my recording to CD and was looking for some photos to use on the jewel case when I came across your site.
I've loved that concert since the first time I heard it. In 2002 I sent an email to NPR inquiring if there were any intent to ever release some of the old Jazz Alive items and got a reply from Tim Owens, who was the engineer for the live recording and who also interviewed Mel Torme on that program. Unfortunately, his answer was no, and I never checked any further, contenting myself by listening to the old tapes and hoping they'd last (27 years now and counting). I've now received & listened to the CD I ordered from Amazon and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Is there any mechanism for exchanging content among those of us who have recorded these old, unpublished programs? It surely seems unfortunate that so much of this wonderful material is not available to pass on among those of us who really love it.
Thanks for your website.

Thanks for your inquiry, Terry. The tapes still exist of Mel, Gerry, and
George. But there are no plans at this time to re-broadcast or release them

In February 1983 I taped a "Jazz Alive" broadcast of a 1982 Kool Jazz
Festival concert by "The Terrible Trio" -- Mel Torme, Gerry Mulligan and
George Shearing. That's the last time I ever heard it. I still listen
to that tape frequently, but by now I'm a little concerned that it may
not last forever.
Is the original master tape of this concert still in your archives
somewhere? Is there any possibility of ever releasing the priceless and
memorable performances from the "Jazz Alive" series on CD's? I'm sure
there must be a market for them.
Thanks for your help.
