My husband, Ira, and I worked with Stuff Smith in London at "Annie's Room". (Annie Ross of Lambert,Hendricks & Ross fame.) He was a crowd pleaser. He played violin with Annie Ross and her house band sometimes till the wee hours of the morning. Annie's Room was one of London's private clubs where the rules were somewhat relaxed. In our book IC2 Adventures, a memoir, we recall some of Stuff's most memorable musical "comic relief" moments, in addition to his excellent playing & abilities on electric violin. Unfortunately he was unable to capitolize on his uniqueness due to the lack of publicity he received versus the amount of publicity afforded Joe Vinuti & Stephane Grapelli. Even though I believe he was the 1st to amplify the violin. Stuff was really a jazz treasure. Claudia Thomas editor- Just Jazz Bulletin. justjazzbulletin.4t.com
