Happy Birthday, Lennie!
Lennie is the greatest. He has been much too underestimated for very long, and he deserves more respect and admiration than he's gotten. He should get more appritiation than Miles and John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman and many, many others, but still is hardly known to the majority of jazz listeners.
The lines he play and the soul he puts into it is one of the most beautiful things I can think of. He started so many things like teaching Improvisation and playing free jazz. He is simply a true master of music.
Now it's 90 years since he came into the world and that's something to celebrate. Everyone who heares about him should give an honest listen.
