Jim Ridl: Garden State Improviser

By Published: December 17, 2003

“I am not a blues player, but I am definitely influenced by the blues that’s in jazz playing, as opposed to what makes up the music of B.B. King and Muddy Waters. I have a great appreciation for that music but I think what I do applies more to how other jazz players use the blues, to enhance what they do. It adds more possibilities to the music. That foundation has to be there otherwise it wouldn’t be jazz.”

Ridl lives in Hamilton Township, NJ and plays frequently in that area, as well as Philly. You can catch him occasionally at Chris’ Jazz Cafe.
