Despite the loyalty of many musicians and listeners alike, Rusch says, "we're not universally loved, and seem to be somewhat controversial." People sometimes don't understand what the label is trying to do and complain about not being able to hear the low dynamics. Others, including non-jazz fans, rave about the sound.
Rusch makes no apologies for his approach and believes that in time, the body of work on CIMP will be appreciated for its breadth and daring. "I'm in it for the long haul," says Rusch, "I believe in what I'm doing."
