The Capital Quartet: Anything Goes

Saxophone Chamber Quartet music with twist after twist.

This is NOT the World Saxophone Quartet. Those listeners who are looking for that brand of probing, on-the-edge chamber jazz need not read further. However, if the listener is looking for a well behaved and totally enjoyable light music experience, the Capitol Quartet's Anything Goes fills the prescription. A delightful mix of classical, jazz and show tunes, Anything Goes illustrates the master arranging abilities of the group's four principle members. Most effective are those pieces that are performed a cappella (e.g., sans big band). Beethoven's "Für Elise" is side by side with "Night and Day" as is Schumann's "Träumerei" and "Sweet Georgia Brown". "Flight of the Bumble Bee" dances with "I've Got Rhythm" and "If you Wish Upon a Star". Nore than a novelty, Anything G oes illustrates the durable nature of the saxophone quartet setting A super release from Summitt Records.
