CD/LP/Track Review

PdQ: PdQ

Rick Pruett is nylon, 6 & 12 string guitars, David Ragsdale, (Kansas), is acoustic & electric violins, baritone violin, cello, and keys. Jerry Peek, (3PM, Steve Morse Band), is 5 & 6 string electric bass and keys. Chip Lunsford is drums and percussion. PdQ covers the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby”, Steely Dan’s “Peg”, and even Jan Akkerman’s “Love Remembered”. Ragsdale and Peek offer several original pieces while Pruett and a Mark Davis also contribute to this predominantly acoustic atmosphered meander.

Pruett’s guitars are tightly smooth, relaxed and airy. Ragsdale’s stringfare is PdQ’ s lead voice and lilting drive. Peek pumps the lively grooves and Lunsford adds the toe-tapping, head-bobbing cement. I find this release more a relaxing ride than a rocking slammer. This a wine and cheese romancing by the lake or snuggling quietly near the hearth soundtrack .If you dig Jerry Goodman’s new agey releases, Urbaniak’s lounge-jazzy bowing, or Didier Lockwood’s mellow yet upbeat side I recommend PdQ.
