Big Band Report
Bob Brookmeyer: Jack of All Trades, Master of Valves
Ken Poston and the Los Angeles Jazz Institute are presenting another all-star event, Modern Sounds, May 24-27 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel. This one focuses on "Big Bands of the Atomic Age" and includes twenty large ensembles along with films, panel discussions and special presentations. Among the jazz giants whose music will be heard are Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Tadd Dameron, Buddy Rich, Charlie Ventura, Chubby Jackson, Tiny Kahn, Artie Shaw, Gil Fuller, Claude Thornhill, Gerry Mulligan, Gil Evans, Elliot Lawrence, Boyd Raeburn, Ralph Burns, Neal Hefti, Billy Strayhorn, Charlie Barnet and Mary Lou Williams.
