CD/LP/Track Review

Philip Bailey: Dreams

Philip Bailey’s most recent endeavor, DREAMS finds him returning to his first love...jazz. Released in June 1999 on Heads Up International, Philip Bailey, most notably the four-octave vocalist and co-founder of the legendary supergroup, Earth, Wind & Fire, jams with a veritable Who’s Who of contemporary jazz. Gerald Albright, Randy Brecker, Luis Conte, George Duke, Everette Harp, Joe McBride, Pat Metheny, Morris Pleasure, Gerald Veasley, Grover Washington, Jr., Kirk Whalum and Peter White join Bailey as he embraces some of the sweetest love songs in recent memory. Tracks on the 10-song CD range from covers of Van Morrision’s “Moondance,” to several original tunes including two co-written by his son, Sir Bailey and Robert Brookins called “Are We Doing Better Now,” and “Strength To Love You.” Philip sings with the spiritual essence from on high and with the finesse and soul of the Song Master that he is. This CD is worth the wait and you can be sure that both new and seasoned jazz fans around the globe will welcome Philip Bailey and DREAMS through the doors of contemporary jazz.
