Year end lists seem to overlook so much, but in a way that's a good thing. After all, it means that good jazz is plentiful these days. The truth of the matter is I spent a great deal of 2010 exploring all the overlooked releases from the past two years. And with so much jazz being released under artist-run online labels, cobbling together a list is all the more trying. Nevertheless, here's my cream of the crop in a year full of fine jazz. Listen and love it:

  1. Jim Corpolongo, Get Happy (Delmark Records);
  2. Wynton Marsalis Quintet/Richard Galliano, From Billie Holiday To Edith Piaf: Live In Marciac (Rampart Street);
  3. Geri Allen, Flying Toward The Sound (Motema Music);
  4. Brad Goode, Tight Like This (Delmark Records);
  5. Brandon Wright, Boiling Point (Posi-Tone Records);
  6. Rex Richardson, Magnum Opus: 21st Century Trumpet Concertos (Summit Records);
  7. Tia Fuller, Decisive Steps (Mack Avenue);
  8. Jason Adasiewicz, Sun Rooms (Delmark Records);
  9. Assaf Kehati Quartet, A View From My Window (AKJazz);
  10. Mostly Other People Do The Killing, Forty Fort (Hot Cup Records).
