This distinctly funky, danceable and sometimes entertainingly rowdy crew from Caracas pick up from where the Acid Jazz scene left off. There's also plenty of that ironic, loungecore, almost Las Vegas cabaret feel kicking in here. If you can imagine a hybrid of Donald Fagen and Tito Puente produced by Kid Creole and all his Coconuts then we're getting close.

Recorded in Venezuela with a little help from US Latin jazz fans Bill Ware and Arto Lindsay, and signed to David Byrne's always-intriguing Luaka Bop label, a little Spanish may make the lyrics easier to check, but what we're here for is the interplay between infectious latin percussion, inescapable rhythms and classy melodies. Considered, sophisticated production - by Chaka Khan and Arto Lindsay alumnus Andres Levin - is another surprising strength for the first album from such an unexpected source.
