With the realization that there will always be more music coming at him than he can keep up with, John wonders why anyone would think that jazz is dead or dying.With the most consistently strong program in recent memory, the 25th anniversary of FIMAV was a perfect mix of the various elements that, over the past quarter century, have defined Musique Actuelle. Still, there were some especially memorable shows, standing out amongst a remarkable wealth of riches at FIMAV 2008 (in no particular order):
- John Zorn - The Dreamers;
- Fred Frith - Cosa Brava;
- Spunk;
- Gunda Gottschalk/Xu Fengxia;
- Art Bears Songbook.
