Miles Davis: The Complete On The Corner Sessions
Although On The Corner might exist in the minds of many as Davis' most unapologetically "different entry in his vast canon, it might actually be the most accessible of all of his "fusion efforts. Some might say that the album indeed belongs in the funk section rather than on the jazz shelves of your local record shop. In fact, the aggressive, pulsating "One and One (featured here in a heavily extended, unedited master take) could have been played under the opening credits of the most psychedelic blaxploitation movie never made.
Unedited masters like the aforementioned "One and One permeate the set; additionally, there is a plethora of previously unissued outtakes from the On The Corner sessions, many of them featuring various combinations of the eighteen-plus musicians that appeared on the finished product. Additionally, the set supplies die-hard fans with never-before-heard material from the sessions that produced the beloved Big Fun and Get Up With It, both from 1974.
Not intended solely for the completist, The Complete On The Corner Sessions is just the medicine for the Miles-o-phile who always had a feeling that there was much more lurking in the shadows of On The Corner...too much to be contained on but one disc.
