...And now for something completely different. Percussionist and electronicist Matt Weston released two EPs a few years back entitled Bloomington and East Hampton that were and still are, adventures in experimental music. Re-released and re-titled Resistance Cruisers and Rashaya, these sessions serve as the initial offerings from 7272 music.

Solo works are by nature intimate and revealing and these are no exception. They are best described as soundscapes of percussion and oscillations that invite interpretation: a sparser more subtle and free formish extension of seminal electro/percussive masters Silver Apples comes to mind. The sound is emotive and can startle as well as lull with siren wails punctuating percussive noodling.

Weston has a decided intimacy with his instruments relying as much on caresses, strokes, rubs and pats as he does on hits, taps and bangs. His style leans toward sound scatters that on first listen are formless but do develop a thematic content. These themes may be in the ear of the listener but they are a principal part of the experiential and experimental nature of this music. One can witness the whimper of "Spying Became You , the urgent grandeur of "Imprisoning Unseen or the in your face kick of "Started . The adorable 3 CD packaging gives the whole affair a sort of bleeding edge punkish ambience, not that these exercises in creative composition/listening need any assistance to test limits.
