Haiku Octet for Jazz Day in a Garden Concert

By Published: January 1, 2006
Haiku Octet—All-Day "Jazz in a Garden Gets Rained Out

Garden Jazz 1

The reeds held to lips
warm-up to an overture
a bird quickens its paces

Garden Jazz 2

English daisies play
brass sax to funky strings
trumpets glare at the sun

Garden Jazz 3

Tree and bush show off
seek top billing and review
brightness over shadows

Garden Jazz 4

Sunflowers blow mellow
slide trombones toward the sky
a slow cover number

Garden Jazz 5

Stems and thorns of rose
tune clarinets to the flutes
clouds come drumming

Garden Jazz 6

The rain pouring
spoils the arpeggios
unheard from indoors

Garden Jazz 7

A late-clearing sky
makes drying impossible
this gig's been a bust

Garden Jazz 8

Twilight folds the score
closes instruments in cases
moths sweep out crickets
