In the midst of all the changes we're constantly making to All About Jazz, we regularly stop to consider the most important aspect of what we do. Who reads these words, looks at these images, and listens to this music? And more importantly, what do these people want out of a jazz publication? If we intend to serve our audience, we need to pay attention to who's out there.

We serve both players and listeners alike through our newly revamped Musician Center . It offers an opportunity for artists to gain exposure and fans to learn more about who's who, and in the process it simply brings everyone together. Our content this month spans the range from the zany to the serious. The first of April marked a particularly foolish high point where we published eleven CD reviews, three news items, and two book reviews. Amazingly enough, a lot of people actually took this material at face value; we found two of our news items elsewhere online, including a posthumous booking of the late piano great Bill Evans on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy .

On the serious side, we published fourteen interviews and artist profiles of players from Dave Douglas to Brad Mehldau and Ted Sirota .

With summer looming large in the coming months, we are about to see a massive proliferation of jazz festivals and events, from the famous (eg. the 25th Montreal International Jazz Festival ) to the relatively obscure (eg. the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival at the University of Montana). Look for background information, schedules, links, and more information among the nearly 300 events listed in our festival guide .

To help you get to where you're going, you'll need to firm up your travel plans, which is one place where we can help. The new AAJ Jazz Traveler program offers travel packages to ten different jazz destinations, including Caribbean events like the Jazz Cruise and the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest . We play an active role in developing and customizing each vacation package, with the goal of keeping costs down and maximizing your access to the music. With over 300,000 different visitors last month, we're finding ourselves swarmed with people from all sides of the jazz world, which is a satisfying thing to see, but it also means serious responsibilities.
