Dear fellow AAJ contributors,

The latest news... and a couple of places where we'd like to ask for your help.

  1. Reviews Wanted!
  2. New Daily Download Center
  3. Interview Center Update
  4. New and Improved News Center
  5. Coming Up... IAJE 2006 in NYC!

Reviews Wanted!

If you have CDs but haven't reviewed them yet, now is the time. We're not seeing as many reviews coming in as usual, and we'd really like to keep a thick, steady stream flowing in the CD Review Center.

Mike recently sent out a big batch of packages with new material and is currently in the process of assembling another, so now's the time to clear the shelves and make way for some new music!

New Daily Download Center

In late October we launched the brand spanking new Daily Download Center, and readers seem to be catching on to the virtues of free tunes. If you haven't stopped by, check it out.

We'd like to be able to offer the greatest possible diversity of downloads, so we're asking for your help in referring artists and record labels to this service. Be sure to point them in the direction of the Download Guidelines and of course the Daily Download Center itself. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Mike or Mark.

October traffic at AAJ was our highest ever (over 800,000 visitors), and we think those downloads may have something to do with it. And, of course, a whole lot of hard work on the part of every contributor who brought content to the site this past month. The numbers are going up, up, up!

Interview Center Update

The number of interviews flowing into AAJ is on the rise, and we're seeing a remarkable range of artists covered. In order to keep the Interview Center running smoothly, please contact John Kelman with interview suggestions before going forward. If you are self-sufficient, he just needs to know what's coming; if you need help in making connections, he can make it happen.

New and Improved News Center

The new version of the News Center includes a spam-screening step, an email notification feature, and a brand new submission form. We're also featuring a timely news item on each page (see NEWS ALERT).

Google News is now picking up AAJ news items. So, between the AAJ News Center, RSS, AAJ Live Content, and Google, announcements will reach jazz enthusiasts on the web in a multitude of ways.

Coming Up... IAJE 2006 in NYC!

The annual conference of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) will be held in New York from January 11-14. In addition to several New Yorkers, a number of other AAJers will be coming to the big city for the meeting. It's a great place to get together, listen to some music, and hear what other people have to say.

If you're going to the conference (and it's never too late to sign up), please get in touch and let us know. We'd like to see as many AAJers get together in person as possible, since this is a rare opportunity for us all to join forces outside cyberspace.

As always, we welcome your ideas and input. Thanks for being a part of the team!

All the best,
Mike and Nils
