The music we love is about a century old, which makes it more than a tradition. By this point it's a legacy.
Some people don't like to use that word to describe a vibrant living art form like jazz, because it suggests images of old guys in black and white obsolescence, the kind of thing you might encounter in a dated documentary film. But the jazz legacy is a gift that stays verdant and green today through... Continue

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING 2004
The year that just ended was our most productive, thanks to the efforts of more individuals than ever. We'd like to acknowledge all the contributors for playing a part in this collective effort.
We also witnessed a variety of developments on the editorial front as the site itself evolved. Here are just a few of the sections we launched in 2004:
VISUAL ARTS CENTER LAUNCH!
We're ramping up the new AAJ Visual Arts Center with several new photo albums by our photographer friends. Jimmy Katz (62 images), Jos Knaepen (200 images), and iga Koritnik (68 images) have already created albums, while Michael Kurgansky uploaded 37 images from the 2004 JVC Newport Jazz Festival.
The process of adding new albums will take time, but our goal is to have 100+ active albums by this time next year. That's a whole lotta jazz photographs and artwork! We'll also feature a photographer each week on the home page.
If you are a photographer, painter, or illustrator, and would like to feature your work at AAJ, click here.
IAJE 2005
Heading to IAJE annual jazz conference in Long Beach, CA? If so, we hope to see you there.
Since we last checked, Jim Santella, Ken Dryden, "Captain" Jack Bowers, Fred Jung, Nils Jacobson and Michael Ricci will be in attendance.
Be sure to stop by the AAJ:LA booth and say hello to Fred!
Happy New Year!
Mike, Chris, Nils and the entire All About Jazz Staff
