DOING DIGITAL MUSIC RIGHT

Mark Sabbatini introduces you to the exciting world of digital music in a 4-part series of articles (see links below). Mark delivers an in-depth look at the current state of the art while providing useful tips like where to find free music, who provides the best services, and where to find the bargains.

If you're just getting your feet wet or want to learn more about downloadable music, let AAJ be your guide...

Part 1: Doing Digital Music Downloads Right
Part 2: Finding Free and Legal Music Downloads on the Internet
Part 3: A Guide to Online Music Services

CD REVIEWS AND ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS

Even in those sweltering dog days of summer, AAJ continues to deliver the goodies. We published nearly 200 CD reviews, and many contributors stepped up and chipped in with CD reviews, extended analysis reviews and multiple reviews.

If you haven't visited the site recently, chances are you missed some good stuff. We strongly recommend John Kelman's interview with guitarist Nels Cline, Riel Lazarus's profile of Sonny Rollins, Mark Sabbatini's profile of pianist Bill Evans, and Nils Jacobson's book review of Cuba and its Music.

As always, AAJ brings you up close and personal with today's (and tomorrow's) musicians of note. This month, in addition to Nels Cline, we chatted with Kent Carter, Hiromi Uehara, Frank Morgan, Martin Speake, Myra Melford, Jim Rotondi, Aaron Zigman, The Vandermark 5, John Medeski, Herbie Hancock, and Chris Potter.

You can now access a list of your local jazz clubs by clicking the "Local Jazz Clubs" link in the "Near You" box located on each AAJ page.

To enter your regional information, click the "Local Jazz Clubs" link, enter your zip code (for international users, enter your city and country) and hit the "Go" button.

The system will then set a cookie and provide a permanent one-click link to a list of your local clubs.

If we have omitted a venue in your area, please add it here.

BOARD & BLOG

If you haven't followed the Ken Vandermark thread, hop on over to the AAJ bulletin board, to dig Ken digging into a variety of controversial topics. Easily one of our board's most insightful and fascinating threads.

Then bop on over to Bret Primack's blog, Jazz and the Internet. Bret saw reader comments spike after his Bush Kills Jazz post.
