BRET PRIMACK'S NEW BLOG: JAZZ AND THE NET
AAJ has been on the lookout for someone to author our first blog and we couldn't have found a better fit than Bret Primack. Bret's combined knowledge of jazz and the internet is unparalleled--he's also a swell guy.
Bret is currently discussing the implications of and the opportunities presented by filesharing. If you're a jazz musician, or access your jazz music peer-to-peer, check it out.
You can expect "explosive" commentary from Bret in the coming weeks, so make his blog a part of your surfing regimen. Those who remember Bret from the "Bird Lives" days, please welcome him to AAJ by posting your comments.
Here are some of the recent topics Bret covered over the last two weeks...

CD REVIEWS AND ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS
AAJ has delivered the goodies once again by publishing nearly 200 CD reviews. Our ever-growing staff of international writers chipped in with CD reviews, extended analysis reviews and multiple reviews.
We featured some superb stories this month, including: Chris M. Slawecki's 3-part interview with CTI Records founder Creed Taylor, Vincent Stephens's opinion piece Underwhelming Understatement: A Plea for Persona in Jazz Vocals, and plenty of coverage from Canada with the Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Victoriaville Jazz festivals.
As always, AAJ brings you up close and personal with today's jazzers of note. This month, in addition to Creed Taylor, we chatted with Joe Lovano, Steve Williams, Rob Mazurek, Tom Smith, and Marian McPartland.
We saw a spike in DVD reviews this month--a baker's dozen. A few titles of note: Charlie Hunter's Right Now Live, The Black Big Bands: Four Swinging Big Bands from a Bygone Era, and Los Hombres Calientes's Live at the House of Blues.
YOUR "BUILDING A JAZZ LIBRARY" LISTS
AAJ has published a variety of "Building A Jazz Library" recommendation lists (Monk example) and we're looking to compile our loyal readersÂ’ favorites for an upcoming feature. To post your list, go to the bulletin board, read the guidelines and post your list. If ten is too confining, feel free to expand it to 15-20.
The most frequently listed titles will be included in "BAJL: Readers Picks, Volume 1". Look for it soon.
GLOBAL COVERAGE: WE NEED YOU!
We'd like to acknowledge everyone who has answered our help wanted ad over the last two months. Some have come on board and have immediately started contributing--we thank you!
CD, book and DVD reviews are always welcome, but we're committed to covering the international jazz scene and we're looking for "correspondents" to report from the field. From the UK to the Far East, we intend to span the globe in our festival and live coverage.
If you are a champion of your hometown's jazz scene and want to bring it to a much larger audience, we'd love to hear from you. Please visit our help wanted page for more details.
