Why Artist Websites Are Rapidly Becoming Obsolete...

Do you agree with this statement? Or, does the concept of an 'artist website' transcend the desktop, smartphone, or other connectivity platform? Not exactly, according to Schneider, whopointed to a class of mobile-specific platforms that need greater strategic focus. “It's mobile-optimized websites, and it's mobile apps," Schneider noted.

Turns out this discussion is a bit more complicated than website or mobile, app or not. Increasingly, artists need to be everywhere, though the mobile lily pad looks far more lucrative moving forward. Schneider used quick case studies involving eBay and PayPal to show higher transaction volumes on mobile apps, even through the same things were being positioned on more conventional sites. Better numbers were also found on mobile-optimized sites as well.

In fact, the per-visit transactions were also higher on mobile, a takeaway that also applied to Linkin Park (an app created by Mobile Roadie with a Topspin-embedded store). “There is nothing special about eBay's products in their app vs. their website, or on Linkin Park's offers in their app vs. their website, but users bought more because it was a better, more convenient user experience to buy on their mobile," Schneider continued.
