This past Sunday marked the world premiere of the television pilot “Sex Ed: The Series" which is part of the Independent Television Festival (itvfest.org). The pilot was created by Ernie Vecchione (executive producer/writer) and the multi-talented jazz artist Tamela D'Amico (producer/director). D'Amico produced the pilot under her production banner La Strega Entertainment.

“Sex Ed: The Series" was shot with the support of Panavision in 11 days in Los Angeles and has a cast of talented notables: Joanna Cassidy ("Blade Runner", “Six Feet Under") plays the sexy yet gutsy college professor named Alison Trevase. Caroline Aaron, Matt Barr, and Angela Sarafyan add to a cast of other impressive and young talents.

As stated on the website for the series, the show bridges the gap between “The Breakfast Club" and “Sex and the City" and follows the lives of eight college students enrolled in a very progressive college sex education course called “Sexuality Today". The tagline for the show is “Not everyone will pass. But everyone will be exposed."

Vecchione and D'Amico have just started shopping the material and after the success of Sunday's premiere, they have been approached by the usual suspects at the pay cable networks, where they feel the show belongs.

D'Amico is known as a singer/actress/filmmaker and was chosen as a “female director to watch" on Fox/Steven Spielberg's short lived series “On the Lot." Having mostly created for the big screen, this is her first leap into producing for television. “Sex Ed: The Series" will have another screening at ITVfest tomorrow, August 5th, at the Sunset Laemmle 5 in West Hollywood.
