The Twin Cities Jazz Society (TCJS) is a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to promoting jazz music, especially live jazz by local musicians, and is supported by membership donations. The organization was started in 1979 and currently has over 1200 members. Last season's “Jazz from J to Z" series had a total audience of nearly 3,000 who heard 23 different groups with about 240 musicians. The new season will cover the most popular jazz styles as requested by our members, including big bands, vocal jazz, mainstream/straight ahead, contemporary/modern and traditional, plus, after a long absence, Latin jazz. With 15 concerts presented by 25 different jazz groups, we are fulfilling our mission to increase listening opportunities for jazz fans, to increase performance opportunities for local jazz musicians, and to promote public awareness of jazz. Eight of the concerts this year will be in high schools or colleges and five in Community Centers for the arts.TCJS produces the “Jazz from J to Z" concert series, co- sponsors the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Northrop Jazz Season, Hopkins Center for the Arts/ Jazz at the Center and the JazzMn Big Band concert season. TCJS also sponsors education programs in area schools and has a scholarship program to help rising young local talent. The TCJS monthly newsletter is Jazz Notes.
