Bennett is a revelation. It's a rare saxophonist who makes every note count, but Bennett is one of them.
New York City Jazz Record
Recorded at Guerilla Studios in Oakland on May 5th, 2022, Plays for Lovers features the trio’s unique renditions of jazz classics by Monk, Porter, Van Heusen, Berlin and Rollins as well as two original compositions by the leader; Aaron Bennett.
Lead by saxophonist Aaron Bennett, this recording harkens back to a day when every jazz musician had a unique voice all their own. The playing here is personal and passionate. The manner in which this album was recorded was in the jazz tradition as well; as a live in studio performance. Smith Dobson, Jr. (drums) demonstrates a lyricism and a musical instinct that gives him a unique voice on the drums. Dan Seamans (bass) playing on this record was at once rhythmic and melodic, providing swing, propulsion, and counterpoint that rounds out the trio’s sound. The music on this album is a delight to listen to and has already been very well received by many.
