Sirius XM Radio to Celebrate the Ninth Annual Jazz Appreciation Month with Extensive Programming

Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Christian McBride to launch new weekly show “The Lowdown: Conversations with Christian" on SIRIUS XM's Real Jazz channel



Specials featuring music by legendary jazz musicians Herbie Hancock, Maceo Parker, Quincy Jones and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis



SIRIUS XM listeners to hear specials and tributes featuring the music of Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Fats Waller and the jazz side of Frank Sinatra presented by Nancy Sinatra






NEW YORK, NY - SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that it will pay tribute to the rich history of jazz, one of the most innovative and influential musical genres in music history with a celebration of the ninth annual Jazz Appreciation Month beginning April 1.



SIRIUS XM's Real Jazz channel, SIRIUS channel 72 and XM channel 70, will kick off its Jazz Appreciation Month special programming by welcoming Grammy-winning bassist and composer, Christian McBride to host a three-hour Jazz Appreciation Month preview show for the SIRIUS XM Jazz at Lincoln Center studios Friday, April 1 at 3:00 pm ET. McBride will highlight the SIRIUS XM jazz programming throughout the month-long celebration, play many of his favorite jazz tunes and introduce the debut of his SIRIUS XM show, The Lowdown: Conversations with Christian. The show, recorded in front of a studio audience at various jazz clubs from across the country, will feature McBride in conversation and performing duets with legendary musicians, including Chick Corea, Angelique Kidjo, Roy Hargrove and others. The Lowdown: Conversations with Christian will premiere Saturday, April 3 and will air every Saturday at 1:00 pm ET on Real Jazz.



April 9, 2010 marks the inauguration of “Jazz Day" across the country and SIRIUS XM will celebrate with Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, who will be unveiling the 2010-2011 season of Jazz at Lincoln Center at 3:00 pm ET on Real Jazz. Additionally, Nancy Sinatra will present a special edition of Nancy For Frank, showcasing the jazz side of American Songbook legend and her father, Frank Sinatra, on April 9 at 3:00 pm ET on Siriusly Sinatra, SIRIUS channel 75 and XM channel 73.



Other Jazz Appreciation Month programming will feature performances, tributes and guest DJ sessions showcasing some of the most influential jazz music ever recorded. SIRIUS XM listeners will hear singer Dee Dee Bridgewater honor Billie Holiday by playing songs from her new tribute album, as well as Billie Holiday originals; funk and jazz saxophonist Maceo Parker perform during Live From Jazz at Lincoln Center, the SIRIUS XM exclusive weekly show broadcast live from Jazz at Lincoln Center; and an in-depth interview with legendary Quincy Jones.



SIRIUS XM's Watercolors channel, SIRIUS and XM channel 71, will celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with special broadcasts of live performances recorded at the SIRIUS XM studios, including Grammy-nominated artists, saxophonist Najee, vocalist and guitarist Jonathan Butler, vocalist and pianist Jamie Cullum and others.



SIRIUS XM's Real Jazz channel plays classic jazz by the masters who pioneered the music and the new artists who continue the tradition into the 21st century. Listeners will hear music by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk.



SIRIUS XM's Watercolors channel plays contemporary jazz. Listeners will hear Dave Koz, Chris Botti, George Benson, Brian Culbertson, Boney James, Al Jarreau, Paul Hardcastle, Earl Klugh, Richard Elliot and Sade.



Siriusly Sinatra is the only 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, commercial-free channel to broadcast the entire spectrum of Sinatra's career, as well as artists and songs from the standards era. Produced by SIRIUS XM and the Sinatra family, the channel features regular blocks of Sinatra's music, archival performances and is the home of Nancy for Frank, a weekly show hosted by his daughter, Nancy Sinatra. Siriusly Sinatra also broadcasts The Chairman's Hour, a weekly radio show hosted by Frank Sinatra himself using archival material and presented by SIRIUS XM and the Sinatra family. Additionally, SIRIUS XM listeners will hear New York radio legend and musical historian Jonathan Schwartz share his encyclopedic knowledge of Sinatra's music and his passion for popular American standards on his daily show, High Standards with Jonathan Schwartz.
