The 11th Annual SFJAZZ Spring Season lineup has been announced. The unique and spectacular five-month-long concert series begins on February 19 and continues through June 12. The season will present some of the most illustrious names in jazz, world and related music.

11th ANNUAL SFJAZZ SPRING SEASON HIGHLIGHTS & THEMES
“We are fully committed to diverse 'thematic' programming and we strive to present every conceivable style of jazz and world music, from trio to big band, hard bop to post-modern and traditional to contemporary," explains Executive Artistic Director Randall Kline.
JAZZ GIANTS
A collection of jazz giants, spanning generations and genres while upholding and bending the traditions of jazz, including a Sacred Space concert at Grace Cathedral with Pharoah Sanders (4/16), bebop and soul-jazz legend Lou Donaldson (5/29), Sinatra-Basie Revisited with Kurt Elling and the Count Basie Orchestra playing the classic Frank Sinatra/Count Basie repertoire (5/30) and bassist Marcus Miller performing the electric music of Miles Davis (6/11).
ECM SERIES
The Spring Season presents a collection of five tribute concerts to the innovative, influential and cutting-edge record label, ECM, in honor of their recent 40th anniversary. Featured ECM artists include Keith Jarrett, solo (3/19), Ralph Towner with Paolo Fresu (3/27), Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen Ensemble (3/28), Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko Quintet (4/11) and the Charles Lloyd New Quartet with Jason Moran, Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland (4/25).
GLOBAL VILLAGE
Artists from every corner of the globe with diverse cultures and styles, from ancient to modern, including German cabaret ensemble Max Raabe & Palast Orchester (2/20), Touareg superstars Tinariwen (2/21), tabla legend Zakir Hussain's Masters of Percussion (3/10), the South African institution Ladysmith Black Mambazo (3/11), Indian-American alto saxophonist and Miles From India' alum Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition (3/13), Portuguese fado vocalist Ana Moura (4/24), Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso (4/17) and Malian Afropop vocalist Salif Keita (6/12).
SOULFUL SINGERS
These melodic masters and spellbinding storytellers interpret the legacy of song with passion, grace and fire, including four-time Grammy-winner Dianne Reeves (3/12), the U.S. premiere of Bobby McFerrin's VOCAbuLarieS (4/10), positive R&B vocalist/guitarist Raul Midn (5/2), singer/piano duet by Sheila Jordan with Steve Kuhn (5/16), and a Bay Area double-bill with The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol Quartet and Jamie Davis Quintet (5/23).
STRING THINGS
An astonishing assortment of fingerboard geniuses including the world-fusion of flamenco, tango, Gypsy and Latin jazz from legendary guitarist Al Di Meola's World Sinfonia (2/27), the progressive bluegrass of the Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile (4/18), and a violin summit featuring Regina Carter Quintet and Mads Tolling Quartet (5/28).
LEADING EDGE
With a strong sense of heritage, these sonic explorers are charting new directions in music, including Joshua Redman, solo Sacred Space concert at Grace Cathedral (2/26), jazz vocalist Kate McGarry Trio with Keith Granz and Clarence Penn (3/7), NYC-based saxophonist Donny McCaslin Trio (6/5) and the special SFJAZZ Members-only west coast premiere of the new band James Farm with Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman and Eric Harland (6/12).
PIANISM
A showcase of the piano's broad range of expression in the hands of true virtuosos including a double-bill with Japanese sensation Hiromi, solo, and rising post-bop/hip-hop star Robert Glasper Quartet (3/20); jazz meets flamenco dance with Chano Domnguez Flamenco Jazz Quartet featuring Tomasito (4/30); and the dynamic duos of Renee Rosnes with Bill Charlap and Toshiko Akiyoshi with Lew Tabackin (6/4).
DEEP GROOVE
A collection of dance, groove and world music combining the power of rhythm to move the body, nourish the soul and unify listeners. Featuring a Cuban dance party with Issac Delgado (2/19), the funky soul of James Brown saxophonist Maceo Parker (3/14), the groove of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Booker T. (4/23), a cutting-edge brass band party with Chicago-based Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and the Slavic Soul Party! (5/1), the downtown NYC jazz of Sexmob with DJ Olive play Sexotica (5/15) and the organ groove double-bill of Soulive and the Bay Area's own Wil Blades O.G.D (5/22).
