Will this wonderful trendy little jazz cafe be able to hold all those whom may come together for this milestone of a celebration? What a memorable night of friendship and music this promises to be! Premik Russell Tubbs is one of those diehard musicians of immense talent who just keeps going and going, for lack of a better description. His love of music, and life in general, is coupled with a dedication to a spiritual/meditation practice. This combination has enabled him to thrive in many ways. Premik has a reputation of being easy to work with as he is light hearted, possessing a very original, joyful sense of humor. Working within a tough, fast paced schedule, coming onto his 60th birthday, Premik’s talent continues to flourish. He has a wealth of friends around the world and retains a youthful balance.

There are few named musicians that he has not played with at one time or another. Beginning from a very early age, under the tutelage of his father, music has colored Premik’s life. Though talent was apparent in all of the arts - Premik was always right at home on the stage, and a proliferation of very original sketches as a youth are nothing but astonishing – yet music was his deep soul calling. He took to the stage with instruments as his paint brushes, with a diverse pallet of rhythm, and sound for a canvas.

During teen years, Premik became interested in Eastern culture and music. Ravi Shankar and others opened doors to new sound, rhythm and textures. He studied the ancient history of music in India, learning ragas that form the base for improvisation. As saxophone is not normally an Instrument of India, he is one of the few who holds the capabilities to play with ease within this culture.

This bridging of cultures led filmmaker Vinit Parmar, in 2011, to seek out Premik for original music needed for his what is now an award winning documentary film, Living River.

In 2010, Premik began working with Grammy award-winning producer and founder of Windham Hill Records Will Ackerman. His multi-instrumental diversity is bringing him to record with many a talent. In Will’s words, ‘Premik has become part of the family.’ Will Ackerman Interview

Premik’s ability to complement others, around the world in any genre of music, is a unique talent. He is truly a multi-instrumentalist who is instrumentally multilingual (try saying that five time!)...as music IS language!
