Imagine an album inspired by a voyage that navigates the Pacific coast of Mexico and wanders through the streets of Paris, blending memory with imagination, sorrow with affection. Ines Velasco, a Mexican born, Brooklyn based drummer, arranger, and composer is collaborating with award-winning Mexican poet Jorge Esquinca to bring the album, A Flash of Cobalt Blue to life.
Ines is recording her first full length big band album as a leader with a 17-piece band of Brooklyn-based musicians (including M. Alex Ramírez, Sam Blakeslee, John Lowery, Bobby Spellman and JK Kim), and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help cover the recording costs of this large project. It will include excerpts of Esquinca’s spoken word as part of the composition.
The Kickstarter campaign ends on March 9, please consider donating to make this project a reality. Click here for the campaign and for more information on the project.
