No bastards ungrateful, let's adopt a puppy... Tail wagging cheerfully, dogs don't smoke pot

On Friday March 29, 2024, at 7:30pm EST an intimate salon concert will be held at Sky Vault in the Financial District of New York City.

Featured performers include poets Robert C. Ford, John S. Hall (King Missile) and Carli Muñoz aka Carlinius M (Beach Boys, Eddie Gomez), accompanied by baritone Charles Coleman (Paavo Järvi, London Symphony Orchestra) and musicians Mike Visceglia (bass—Suzanne Vega, John Cale), Gene Pritsker (guitar—Matrix Resurrections, Joe Zawinul) and Wayne DuMaine (trumpet—New York Philharmonic, Prince).

John S. Hall is renowned for the 90's college radio hit 'Detachable Penis', by the avant-garde band he founded, King Missile. He continues to be prolific, posting five new poems on weekdays (seven on weekends!) to social media, usually humorously reflecting on life in NYC. Three of his recent musings were set to music by Gene Pritsker and will be performed as the composition 'Not the Same'.

Carlinius M will recite his poem “For the Last Twenty-Five Years." It was written for two voices and draws from his keen observations as the pianist at his iconic eponymous restaurant, Carli’s Fine Bistro & Piano, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Bassist Mike Visceglia's original piece “Quiet City" also will be performed. Visceglia notes it was “inspired by those rare times, be it at dusk, or after a storm, when the city slows down. It can be a circumspect and melancholy time. I see it as a kind of film noir theme for New York City”.

Lastly, the program will include a reading as well as video premiere of 'Puzzle Complete', a poem by Robert C. Ford that explores the quantum physics of love, also set to music by Pritsker. Ford laughingly remarks his poem was “inspired by many late nights of playing the video game Tetris while at university."

This will be concert #33 of a long-running series of “Low Key" Chamber Concerts at the Sky Vault hosted by Robert C. Ford in collaboration with Composers Concordance, an eclectic concert series, ensemble, record label, and presenting organization for music with a 40-year history of premiering good music that pushes the boundaries of sound and composition.

Previous Sky Vault concerts have featured Carli Muñoz (piano—Beach Boys, Eddie Gomez), Paul Nowinski (double bass—Les Paul, Keith Richards, Sting), Jay Rodriguez (saxophone—Groove Collective, Miles Davis), and Rob Schwimmer (theremin—Wayne Shorter, Paul Simon, Bette Midler, Esperanza Spalding).

This event is private but a free livestream is available via the Ticket Link below to the Facebook event page.
