Short bio: Guitarist Jimi Odell has been playing clubs and festivals in the Philly area so long, most fans don't know that he was born in Richmond, Va. Over the years, Odell has played Zanzibar Blue, The Clef Club, and Ortliebs' JazzHaus. He was a fixture at the Cape May Jazz Festivals, and has entertained dignitaries at the Virginia governor's mansion and mayoral inaugurations in Washington D.C. Odell grew up part of the fantastic, fertile musical environment in 1955, when John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery were all playing and collaborating. In 1957 Odell worked with the Redd Foxx show at the Cotton Club and has since played with almost every musician from the Philadelphia/New Jersey area—from “back in the day" with Dottie Gayle Smith, Bootsie Barnes, Shirley Scott, Tyrone Brown and Larry McKenna to such “young lions" as Terrell Stafford, Joey DeFrandesco, Kyle Kohler and Duane Eubanks. Most recently, Jimi can be heard scatting with Lionel Hampton, Tony Williams and Jim Martinez's group on the CD titled Jazz Praise II, produced by Invisible Touch Music.Odell's television credits include the Bill Cosby Show; Quintessence, hosted by Bob Perkins on Public Television; an appearance with Toni Lynn Washington on Channel 57; a commercial for The Vanguard Group; and a featured appearance on The Guitar Academy, hosted by Bob Miles and aired on Comcast.

Jimi's CD Jamming at 23rd Street was heralded by critics as one in which “the guitar speaks volumes, and his vocals range from heartbreaking tenderness to danceable scat." (Tempo Magazine). His recent work, Shades of Jimi Odell has also received great reviews.
