Ghostlight Records is proud to announce the release of the Original Broadway Cast Album for the critically acclaimed 'In The Heights'. Set for June 3, 2008 release as a double-CD, 'In The Heights' features 23 tracks of Latin, Salsa and Hip-Hop-infused music, conceived and written by emerging superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show opened on Broadway last week, and The New York Times said “The title song...is among the most galvanizing opening numbers in recent Broadway memory," and added that there was “a sense of excitement almost never heard emanating from a Broadway pit." USA Today noted “Heights already has been cited alongside two other off-Broadway transfers, last season's multiple Tony Award winner 'Spring Awakening' and this year's superb 'Passing Strange', as evidence of a more progressive and culturally eclectic spirit in musical theater." TIME MAGAZINE praised: “In The Heights represents change on Broadway. It's contemporary, heartfelt and full of hope."

'In The Heights' a show about love and dreams, about tradition and hard work. It was written by and stars 28 year-old Lin-Manuel Miranda, who uniquely inhabits the story and the role, as he chronicles three days in the lives of a handful of close-knit residents of Washington Heights. In an interview with Playbill Magazine, Miranda said: “A lot of the show comes out of the theme of home, and what we define as home." The heartfelt and vibrant production quickly became an Off-Broadway smash, with New York Magazine naming it 2007's 'Best Musical of the Year', and The New York Times including it among 'The Best of 2007.'

THE NEW YORK TIMES March 10, 2008 - By Charles Isherwood “Under the enthusiastic guidance of the music director, Alex Lacamoire, the orchestra -- band is really a better word -- plays with a sense of excitement almost never heard emanating from a Broadway pit. (The standard amplification is less flattening to this music than to traditional scores.) Bright, piping fanfares from the trumpets punctuate the dance numbers; the merry tinkle of a steel drum laughs along with the jokes. The players below seem to be having as much fun as the performers onstage. That is saying plenty, for when this musical erupts in one of its expressions of collective joy, the energy it gives off could light up the George Washington Bridge for a year or two. The title song, for instance, is among the most galvanizing opening numbers in recent Broadway memory, as Usnavi gives the audience a guided tour, in briskly flowing rap, of the troubles that nip at the heels and the hopes that feed the imaginations of the neighborhood's inhabitants."

USA TODAY March 10, 2008 - By Elysa Gardner “Conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda, 28, who also wrote the music and lyrics and stars in it, the show focuses on a group of Latin Americans living and struggling in Manhattan's Washington Heights and features a score that blends Latin, pop and hip-hop textures. Most of the characters are young, and some of them rap....Heights already has been cited alongside two other off-Broadway transfers, last season's multiple Tony Award winner Spring Awakening and this year's superb Passing Strange, as evidence of a more progressive and culturally eclectic spirit in musical theater."

ASSOCIATED PRESS March 10, 2008 - By Michael Kuchwara “...joyous, Latin-laced musical that has transferred from off-Broadway to Broadway with even more spice swirling through its sweet-tempered liveliness." -- “Miranda's songs... propel the evening. His lyrics are direct and often witty, particularly in the rap numbers."

LA TIMES March 9, 2008 - By Patrick Pacheco “...an array of musical styles, including bachata, merengue, salsa, hip-hop and Broadway..." “the first major musical about Latinos created by and featuring Latino talent. Miranda, who composed the songs, is joined by Quiara Alegra Hudes, a Latina playwright who has fashioned the musical's book."
