Fiction Plane Drummer Pete Wilhoit returns to roots at Bloomington Jazz Festival, Dec. 11-12

Reuniting with Indiana-based jazz combo 3rd Man for the event!

Pete Wilhoit, drummer for international indie rock band FICTION PLANE (which is fronted by music icon Sting's eldest son Joe Sumner) is returning to his roots (and alma mater) as he is participating in the Bloomington Jazz Festival, which is taking place at Bloomington High School South on December 11-12.

A Bloomington, IN native, Wilhoit will not only be reuniting with his old jazz combo 3rd Man (with whom he has not performed since 2003), but he will also be sitting on the panel of evaluators examining the young local talent. 3rd Man also consists of guitarist Peter Kienle and bassist Jack Helsey.

Says Pete of the upcoming experience, “I am really excited about being involved with the Bloomington Jazz Fest. It is such a unique experience to be able to go back to my old high school to make music again and share some of the musical experiences I've had since I left there so many years ago. I'm especially excited to be able to play with my old jazz trio 3rd Man again. I hope it will be as fun for the kids as it will be for me."

3rd Man released two albums on Acme Records, the self-titled debut in 1997 and a follow-up entitled Freed Man in 2003, prior to Pete joining Fiction Plane. More information about 3rd Man can be found here: http://www.acmerecords.com/thirdman.php

Wilhoit graduated from Bloomington HS South, and also graduated from Indiana University School of Music in 1995, where he studied under percussion stalwart Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Smashing Pumpkins, Melissa Etheridge, Joe Cocker, John Fogerty, etc).

Prior to joining FICTION PLANE, Wilhoit was a member of several popular Indiana-based bands, including CUTTERS, BEEBLEBROX, FOUR SEXES, SIMON ROWE TRIO, JANIECE JAFFE, KEVIN MCCORMICK, CRAIG BRENNER, KRISTA DETOR, and others.

He has toured the world with FICTION PLANE, performing alongside such notables as The Police, Bruce Springsteen, The Killers, Joss Stone, 311, and even Snoop Dogg. FICTION PLANE is currently wrapping recording of its third studio album, which is scheduled for Spring 2010 release.

The festival is a free event, and is being coordinated by Wilhoit's own former band teacher, Robert Dubinski.
