The São Luiz Theatre Jazz Fest will begin on the 1st of April, 2011 in Lisbon.

The 9th Portuguese Jazz Fest, in continuation of what has taken place in the earlier editions, aims to be an event which goes on for three days and approx. 40 hours of performances in four rooms of the Theatre. The Fest presents jazz made in our country by Portuguese groups, which in some cases, include musicians from abroad. The 9th Jazz Fest at São Luiz Theatre—"The Portuguese Jazz Fest," despite being an event based on the earlier editions, presents a new feature in its programming: “Internationalisation," with the aim of making jazz made in this country known internationally.

In order to do this, invitations have been sent to foreign professionals (journalists, agencies, promoters, etc) who will have the opportunity to get to know Portuguese musicians and jazz made in Portugal. On the other hand, and as in earlier editions, 9th Jazz Fest will continue giving special emphasis to the work developed by a significant number of Music Schools who, from the north to the south of the country, dedicate themselves to the teaching of this musical expression.

Once more, a great number of combos representing 17 schools will give live performances. Apart from the various Concerts, Master Classes and Jam sessions, another feature of The Jazz Fest is that the participants, as well as the general public, will have the possibility to acquire jazz CDs by national and foreign musicians. With this in mind, there will be a Record Fair in the theatre foyer during the three-day event.

In the 9th Jazz Fest the four rooms, which have been used in the earlier editions, will be maintained. Sala Principal / Main Auditorium: (8pm-midnight) Room destined for 8 concerts (two on 1st + three both on 2nd and 3rd).

Teatro-Estúdio Mário Viegas / Studio (3pm-8pm): 2 master classes will be held in this room. There will also be 6 concerts.

Jardim de Inverno /Winter Garden (2pm-8pm): This is the room where the concerts by the 17 combos representing the various schools will take place. A concert, followed by a jam session, will also be performed in this room at the end of each of the 3 days of the Fest (Midnight-2am).

Spot São Luiz / Restaurant: At this spot there will be 2 daily performances by Duos.In general terms, this is what the 9th Portuguese Jazz Fest will be like.

More information will be available at the sites of both Associação Sons da Lusofonia and Teatro Municipal São Luiz.
