On November 30, the DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) proudly announced that it will once again receive a $35,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in support of the 2012 Festival, which will take place June 1-10, 2012. The DCJF is receiving one of 863 grant awards, which total $22.543 million, encompass 15 artistic disciplines and fields, and support of projects in 47 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Each year, the DCJF presents more than 100 dazzling concerts, performances and programs in nearly 50 venues throughout Washington, D.C.—at national monuments, theatres, museums, neighborhood arts centers, clubs, restaurants, hotels and galleries—making it the largest and most diverse music festival in the nation's capital city. The Festival reaches more than 80,000 visitors of all ages and backgrounds from across the District, as well as an increasing number of out-of-town visitors.

“The 2012 Festival's theme, Celebrating DC's Jazz Legacy and Beyond: In the Footsteps of the Elders, will feature, in addition to nationally and internationally renowned artists, the rich treasure trove of local musicians who are perpetuating the indelible contributions of D.C. legends such as Duke Ellington, Sonny Stitt, Shirley Horn, Billy Taylor, and John Malachi, among numerous others," said DCJF Executive Producer Charles Fishman. “We are extremely grateful to the NEA for its support of the DC Jazz Festival and are excited to continue providing unique and exciting programs through this grant."

“Art Works is the guiding principle at the NEA," said agency Chairman Rocco Landesman. “I'm pleased to see that principle represented through the DC Jazz Festival. This project demonstrates the imaginative and innovative capacities of artists and arts organizations to enhance the quality of life in their communities."
