Celebrate the Exciting Synergy Between Jazz and the Visual Arts June 2nd and 3rd

WASHINGTON, DC: The DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) and The Phillips Collection today announced the continuation of their partnership in hosting the highly-popular, free, weekend-long annual Jazz 'n Families Fun Days. The Washington Post’s KidsPost is the official media sponsor, and UnitedHealth Group is a major partner. Held Saturday, June 2nd from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 3rd from 11 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at The Phillips Collection, Jazz ‘n Families Fun Days will treat families to enjoyable and enriching art-inspired performances and activities.

“Jazz ‘n Families Fun Days is a unique way for families to celebrate the spirit of jazz by having musicians interact with classic visual masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Jasper Johns, and Mark Rothko,” said DC Jazz Festival Executive Director Sunny Sumter. “Our partnership with The Phillips Collection, one of Washington, D.C.’s major art museums, enables us to make jazz and art available to parents and children alike.”

“Washington has such great jazz roots that we're excited to tell KidsPost readers about the history of jazz in Washington and encourage them to experience it at Fun Days,” said Tracy Grant, Editor of The Washington Post’s KidsPost.

At the event, families can enjoy performances from the finest jazz musicians from around the region as they perform improvised pieces inspired by paintings in The Phillips Collection’s intimate galleries. Meanwhile, children can participate in a variety of fun-filled activities to introduce them to the rich traditions of jazz and art, including an instrument petting zoo, storytelling and hands-on art workshops where they can create their own jazz-inspired artwork. Families will have free access to the Phillips’s summer exhibitions, featuring art by American master Jasper Johns and British artist Antony Gormley, on their opening weekend.
