Featuring 13 captivating tracks, All In The One Room is a vibrant fusion of swing, blues, bop, Latin, and vocalese-inspired R&B and jazz rap. O’Hara’s compositions are a testament to her technical prowess, with melodies that stem from her own improvisations, inspired through years of transcribing and composing vocalese. Her lyrics possess a rare ability to evoke both jubilation and introspection, effortlessly tugging at the heartstrings of listeners.
‘Julie O’Hara’s music deserves to be left to linger in the air, to be swayed to and to be absorbed.’ — Australian Stage.
At the heart of the album lies O’Hara’s love for using the voice not just as a lyrical instrument but also as an instrumental one, following the traditions of other improvising singers like Betty Carter, Sheila Jordan, and Mark Murphy.
Backed by an ensemble of exceptional musicians, O’Hara’s band breathes life into each song, extending the mood of the narrative with their soloing and ensemble playing. The camaraderie among the band members, who are all old friends, is palpable throughout the album, adding an extra layer of warmth and familiarity to the listening experience. The album was recorded over two days after one of the longest Covid lockdowns in the world. Steve Sedergreen is on piano, Edward York on drums, Mark Elton on bass and guests, Anton Delecca on tenor saxophone and Eamon McNelis on trumpet. Renowned for her expertise in vocalese,
O’Hara seamlessly blends genres, drawing from years of experience in traditional jazz, standards, big band R&B, jazz manouche, hip hop, R&B, and Latin jazz. All In The One Room is a testament to O’Hara’s musical journey, showcasing her ability to traverse diverse musical landscapes with ease and finesse. In an era where genuine musicality is often overshadowed, 'All In The One Room' shines as a beacon of authenticity.
O’Hara’s technical skill, outstanding lyricism, and genuine musicality demand attention and recognition. All In The One Room is now available on all major streaming platforms.
